I’ve found spring a bit of a bumpy ride this year. Up and down, up and down. But mostly it’s been on the cool side, especially April which has been a disappointment – we even had snow last week. Not that this has been unusual weather. April can bring anything: snow, hail, winds and rain. A couple of years ago it snowed in May, icy flakes falling on the blossoming clematis. You just never know what’s gong to happen. One day a lighter jacket, the next togged up to the nines in a winter coat and scarf again. Yes, spring is a tug of war between the cold and the warmer, and more welcome, temperatures.
So clothing the little one can be a little tricky at this time of year. The winter coat is too heavy while the summer jacket is too light. I reckon a gilet is really the perfect garment for this time of year while also being very handy for cooler summer evenings and outdoor festivals.
Trespass sent me a wonderful gilet from their kids performance outdoor clothing range, and my daughter loves it. Perfect for running around the garden in, for wearing to school, for keeping her body warm when her arms feel cold.
The Kye Kids padded gilet comes in azalea, black or electric blue. My six year old is going through a pink phase so we opted for the bright azalea. I also got size 7/8 so it will last her for another year, and even though it looks a little big on her at the moment, it still fits well and snug and keeps her warm. The gilet itself incorporates Coldheat Insulation which is light weight, durable and with a soft lofted fibre layer that holds in your body heat. The overall quality is high. It washes well too.
Recently, the little one ditched her winter coat for the gilet – she won’t wear anything else outside, her old coat relegated to the back of the cloakroom. Best of all, she loves wearing it on a long scooter ride as it gives her the freedom of movement a bulky coat doesn’t provide.
The Kye Kids padded gilet is warm, robust and light – the perfect all-weather garment when the seasons are changing.
….I think I’ll have to buy myself one too.
