A Perfect Jigsaw

Jigsaw puzzle I was recently sent a jigsaw puzzle by Wentworth Wooden Puzzles. It’s a hundred pieces and aimed at children five years and above. The Little One loves jigsaws, I mean loves them. She will quite happily assemble a sixty piece puzzle all by herself; she loves them…. did I mention that already? The Little One is only four years old, but I thought she might like the challenge of something a little more complex. We were going to build this thing together.

The jigsaw came in a very sturdy box, and the pieces themselves in a lovely draw string cloth bag; always good for storage. We laid all the pieces out on the floor and set to work on the task. The individual pieces are solid and very well made, and very imaginatively cut, some very tiny and detailed, some were of fairies which The Little One loved; she enjoyed finding the fairy pieces among the pile. But the jigsaw turned out to be more of a challenge than we’d bargained for; it actually took a good hour to piece it all together, starting with the edge pieces and working our way in. There were moments when we both felt frustrated and The Little One began to lose interest, leaving me to finish it…

…Having said that, this wasn’t the puzzle’s fault, more that I’d pitched the wrong level of expertise at The Little One. Maybe one hundred pieces is still too many for her at the moment, give her another six months or so, and I’m sure she’ll take to it like a pro. But look what we achieved anyway, isn’t it pretty? The picture, the rich colours, the beautiful detail. On this alone, I highly recommend Wentworth Wooden Puzzles.
